Frank Townend, ex KOYLI/2LI Band


CSJT Frank Townend

Band CSJT Frank Townend passed away suddenly on 30th Sept. after becoming ill with pneumonia. His funeral was held at Dewsbury Moor Crematorium, Dewsbury on 18 Oct 16.

Frank joined the KOYLI band as a boy soldier and went on to server in the KOYLI/2LI Band playing Tenor Sax as well as a period as Bugle Major. Frank was very well respected by his fellow band members and enjoyed playing hockey for the battalion. Frank left the band to finish his service in Wakefield as a Permanent Staff Instructor with 5LI. After leaving the Army Frank worked as a Milkman for a number of years and also a period of time doing security at Bradford University. He was also a keen gardener.

Former members of the KOYLI and 2LI bands, some of whom travelled from as far a field as Portsmouth, along with former Battalion members from KOYLI, 2LI and 5LI joined Frank's family and friends in ensuring Frank was give a fitting send-off.. A band legend and close friend of Frank, 96 year old Bill Grainger, was also there to pay his respects.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Frank's son Craig, brothers, family and friends.

RIP Frank your duty done take your place with your band of brothers in the massed band in the heavens playing "Jockey to the Fair". Cede Nullis.
