Funeral of Cpl Peter Laland

Cpl Peter Laland late 2nd Battalion The Light Infantry

Former members of 2LI, 1LI, KOYLI and members of all our Association branches joined Peter's family and friends at Rose Hill Crematorium for a service to celebrate the life of Peter. 2LI members travelled from all over the country to pay their respects. We have to say a massive thank you to Dave "Bo Bo" Braisby for supplying the hot tea for those who had arrived early at the Crematorium.

A slow marching escort of 4 Buglers from the Lt Div and Rifles Veteran Buglers Assn: Craig Rosser; Phil Guy; Kevin Fawcett; and Kevin Armstrong and 5 Standard Bearers from: Leeds; Pontefract; Wakefield; West Leeds; and to honour a son of Doncaster the Doncaster Branch Standard was also carried. They then provided a guard of honour as Peter's coffin was carried into the Crematorium accompanied by Carol, Sons; Tony, Arron and family members.

The Crematorium packed to capacity listen to a eulogy remembering Peter in a letter from Tim Bevan who was not able to attend. Peter and Tim Bevan's service careers were intertwined as Peter not only served with Tim in Battalion but also moved with Tim as his Batman. They became a very good friends which was clear from the eulogy. As Last Post was sounded by the Buglers the Standard Bearers dipped their Standards in the aisle and Binyon was given by Maj Dave Jarratt.

After the service family and guests travelled to the Punch Bowl in Thorne for the wake and remember the husband, father, grandfather, friend and the genuinely top man that Peter was. Peter's family presented the Buglers and Standard Bearers with a bottle of Port as a thank you and to drink a toast with Peter. Thank you to Carol, Tony, Arron and all the family for the warm welcome you gave Peter's Army family.

RIP Peter you will always be remember by everyone you touched with your humour and friendship. Cede Nullis.
