On Thursday 2nd August 2018 at Ossett Town Football ground two youth teams played a football match to commemorate the role of football and footballers during WWI. The youth teams were from the youth of Ossett in West Yorkshire with the other team from Junior Soldiers Waterloo Company of the Army Foundation College Harrogate.
It was the 5th occasion the match has been played with each of the teams winning the game twice. In a close fought game that ended one all after 90 minutes went to penalties. Congratulation to Ossett Youth who won on penalties 5 to 4.
Before the game an act of remembrance was held on the pitch by both teams. Our Association paraded the Rifles, Light Infantry and KOYLI Standards carried by Colin Cranswick, Bryan Clayton and Tim Humphreys, along with a Standard from the Royal British Legion carried by Claire Evans. Last Post and Reveille was sounded by Craig Rosser, Pete Bate and Kev Fawcett from the Lt Div and Rifles Veteran Buglers Association.
