It is with sadness that we have been informed that Cyril Calton Legion d'Honneur passed away after a short illness on 18 August 2018 aged 94. Cyril enlisted into 1 KOYLI on 1 October 1942. Cyril was presented with the Legion d'honneur by the French Consul in Feb 2018 in Sheffield for his service in France during WWII.
The Association Vice President and all members of the Association send sincere condolences to Cyril's family at this sad time.
RIP Cyril your duty done you served your country and city with honour and bravery. The bugle sounds No More Parades calling you to the FRV. Cede Nullis.
Cyril's family have asked that we publish the following:
"It is with sadness that we have to announce that Cyril passed away peacefully at home with his family around him following a short illness. He had always been an active man right to the end and was a veteran runner and race walker into his 70’s. He developed his pace of walking and running with the 1/4 Battalion of the KOYLI during WW II, which he never lost.
Cyril was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and everyone who knew him. He optimised his regimental motto and carried out his duty for his country, his battalion and mates during the war and his family and community in Sheffield. He also served 36 years with the Sheffield City Council up to his retirement and had a long and active retirement and he cared for his wife Joyce during her illness until her death last year.
Your duty done now Cyril, stand down and rest in peace with Joyce. CEDE NULLIS"
