The VC centenary stone for Lt Col Harry Greenwood VC, DSO & Bar, OBE, MC 9th Bn KOYLI was unveiled on Tuesday 23 October 2018 in Bachelors Acre memorial garden Windsor, a stones throw from where he was born in Victoria Barracks.
Approximately 50 descendants of Lt Col Harry Greenwood attended the ceremony, some of whom had travel from America and Canada.
The Mayor and Mayoress of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead welcomed: the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire; Colonel Dan Reeve MC (Rifles); Riflemen from 4 Rifles; members of the KOYLI Association represented by Brigadier (Retd) Robin Draper CVO, OBE along with several other KOYLI retired Officers and Colin Cranswick with the Pontefract Branch KOYLI Standard.
Colonel Dan Reeve MC read the VC Citation after which the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire unveiled the commemorative stone. Mr Michael Greenwood and Capt Dickie Dutton read the names of soldier from 9th Bn KOYLI who were lost on 23 and 24 October 1918. A bugler from The Rifles sounded Last Post and Rouse during which the KOYLI and Royal British Legion Standards were dipped. Lt Col Harry Greenwood's great granddaughter spoke on behalf of the gathered Greenwood family to thank those present.
Following the ceremony a reception was held in the splendid Windsor Guildhall where Brig Robin Draper CVO, OBE made a brief speech on behalf of the KOYLI.
