Featherstone's Fallen Remembered 100 years on


Featherstone War Horse

Featherstone's fallen were remembered in a service of remembrance at the Featherstone War Horse a hundred years since the end of WWi. Local school children joined the Mayor of Featherstone, veterans and members of the public on 9 Nov 2018.

Pete Bate and Kev Fawcett sounded Last Post and Reveille as the Standards of various Regimental Associations were dipped. The Pontefract Branch KOYLI and LI Standards were carried by Rob Smith and Colin Cranswick.

At the same time at Airedale High School Castleford Stephen Drew of Pontefract Branch paraded the Rifles Association Standard at the schools Service of Remembrance which also remembered former school pupil Rifleman James Backhouse of 2 Rifles who was killed in Afghanistan aged 18.

The office is generally unmanned as there is no Internet, landline or answer machine.  The Association Secretary visits the office twice a week to collect the mail and for any pre-arranged appointments.  The Association Secretary can be contacted on the mobile number or by email.
