Armed Forces Day Leeds, Doncaster and Rotherham

Association members from West Leeds branch and members of the Rifles RST were present at Leeds Armed Forces Day event on Saturday 29 Jun. West Leeds branch members; Brian Clayton, Geoff Holland, Ronnie Barrow and Tony Rothery manned the Association gazebo and march in the parade of Veterans carrying Standards of The Rifles, The Light Infantry and KOYLI.

In Doncaster Tim Humphreys carried the KOYLI Standard in the Armed Forces Day parade through the city centre. Lt Col (Retd) Graham Whitmore and Maj (Retd) Derek Searby CBE attended the event as guests of the Mayor of Doncaster.

In Rotherham CSjt 'Elvis' Pressley QPSI of Y Coy 8Rifles and Colin Cranswick were guest of the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham for the town's Armed Forces Day.

Thank you everyone for representing our Association and supporting Armed Forces Day events in the various town and cities.

On Saturday 6 Jul it is the turn of Wakefield and Pontefract to hold their Armed Forces Day event in Pontefract Park. Present on the day, demonstrating 4 of the Rifles 5 Pillars, there will be members of; Pontefract and Wakefield Association branches, cadets from E (The Rifles) Company ACF, Y Coy 8Rifles and the Rifles RST. At 1pm Maj (Retd) Andrew Penny will present a Silver statuette of the KOYLI Memorial to the town and people of Pontefract to commemorative the historic link to the KOYLI and continuing link The Rifles.

All members of the Association and members from all of our Association branches with your branch Standards are asked to join Pontefract and Wakefield members for the parade of veterans at 11am and presentation of the statuette at 1pm. Bring your families and enjoy Armed Forces Day in Pontefract Park.
