KOYLI Memorial Doncaster

Minden Day greetings to all!

1st August 2019, Minden Day, was the first Wreath Laying ceremony at the KOYLI Memorial in Elmfield Park Doncaster. Brigadier (Retd) Roger Preston wrote:

We had a short memorial service in front of the statue, taken by Andrew Martlew. After yesterday's rain, the weather was kind. Congratulations to all those who came from afar, particularly those from Devon, Wiltshire and Glos. The Binyon lines (We will remember them) were read by Fred Adamson, aged 99 and a KOYLI Normandy veteran and Legion d'honneur recipient. Tony Hare gave the Kohima Epitaph and John Kendall read a lesson. Wreaths were laid by Cllr Ros Jones, Elected Mayor of Doncaster - her grandfather was in the KOYLI - and by me on behalf of the Association. Branch standards were on parade as were two buglers. It was a moving occasion, brilliantly organised by Graham Whitmore and David Wroe.

The event will now be held annually on Minden Day,

Standard bearers were Ady Waites, Tim Humphreys, Brian Clayton and Stephen Drew formed a guard of honour. Last Post was sounded by Peter Bate and David Jarratt.
