Major Christopher L’Estrange Backhouse, Late KOYLI

It is my very sad duty to inform you all of the death of Major Christopher L’Estrange Backhouse, late KOYLI who sadly passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday 19th September following a long illness. His wife Caroline and family members were with him.

He joined The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry on 7 Jul 1956 as a Second Lieutenant and saw operational service with 1 KOYLI in Cyprus, Borneo, Malay Peninsula and Northern Ireland, he later retired on 17 May 1977.

He went on to become a Trustee of the former King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Regimental Association Trust until his retirement earlier this year.

Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with Caroline, family members and friends.

A very sad loss indeed.

As the bugles sound 'No More Parades' your duties done Rest In Peace Sir. Cede Nullis.
