Lt John Grayburn VC - Ox and Bucks Light Infantry & 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion

On 17 September 1944 Lieutenant John Hollington - Grayburn VC parachuted into Arnhem with the 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment as part of Operation Market Garden. On 20 September he lost his life to enemy action and for his gallantry, he was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross. He was a former Officer in the Army Cadet Force in London. In September 1940 he was given an emergency commission as a second lieutenant and posted to the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. After joining the Parachute Regiment, he was transferred to the 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion before joining the 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment.
